I’ve changed my share of baby onesies and have to say that Uniqlo’s design is by far the most thoughtful. They’ve done a great job with the little design details that have resulted in a high quality product. Case in point: the snaps that put together the onesie. These can be confusing even to veteran parents because of the sleep-deprivation that comes with taking care of a newborn.
Other brands have snaps only in the bottom to make diaper changing easy, but Uniqlo onesies have an easy to wear design that don’t require obstructing the baby’s face when trying to pull it down, one just needs to put the baby’s arms through the sleeves and voila!

The snaps at the bottom are usually pretty hard to get right – but Uniqlo has solved this problem by cleverly providing the middle snap in a different colour so that there’s no confusion on which button goes where.

Granted, these are very minor points relative to the bigger factors of cloth quality and price, but all else equal, I always find myself reaching for the Uniqlo onesies as they just make life a teeny bit simpler. Goes to show the power of design across both physical and digital products – great design makes the product easy to use. It’s difficult to quantify the impact of such decisions but I am convinced that Uniqlo enjoys a bigger marketshare than other equivalent brands because of their thoughtful design.
